Link Love #18: Blumin

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Today we are going to introduce to Sandy from Blumin. With a fabulous name like that there’s little need to tell you the business she runs!

Blumin’s focus is to provide pesticide-free flower & herb designs, picked straight from the garden to you.  The makings of each arrangement is selected, hand-picked and carefully combined.  And each has a fragrance that lifts your spirits and fills your senses with “real” flowers and herbs with true & beautiful scents. Breathe the perfume in and almost involuntarily your reaction will be “aaahhhhhhh beautiful”……..

Our arrangements, the makings of which sourced from the rich soils of Daylesford and surrounding Macedon Ranges region, take on the colours and textures of each season’s best offerings.  Of course, in summer roses feature.  But depending on theme and style requirements and the season, you may find the likes of kale, wild strawberries, poppy-seed heads and chestnuts and herbs such as angelica in your bouquet.

Blumin has now been involved with many weddings, supplying simple bouquets of white roses as well as more “decorative” and complex arrangements including, wired diamantes, tulips, peonies and the like. Today’s Brides are more and more planning weddings which are “Green”. Whether it is sourcing local products and services or using vintage or recycled items, today’s bridal couple is eco-conscious.’

Florists, Victoria

And now a little about Sandy in her spare time;

1). What’s your favourite way to relax at the weekend?

Reading a country style magazine with a cappuccino and an old fashioned B&W classic movie on in the background

2). Favourite restaurant?

The Lakehouse at Daylesford

3). What book are you reading at the moment?

“A Higher Branch” by Sam Makhoul. A beautiful fable about a boy who gets lost in the woods and is guided home by a wise old man who teaches him all of life’s lessons by relating to a wisdom found in the eight Trees of Life.

4). What did you last go and see at the cinema?

I seriously can’t remember – note to self *Go to cinema*

5). What is your favourite wedding story?

Bridal couple with the bride from country NSW and the groom from Broome with the Wedding in Alice Springs.  Intimate, romantic and unique, flowers (by Blumin – arranged in Trentham!) flown from Melbourne to Alice Springs, married on a sand dune with Ayers rock in the background.

For more information on Blumin see there website and follow them on twitter for up to the minute tips!

Link Love: #15 Ruby and Joy

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Today on the blog we have a lovely business called Ruby and Joy who do amazing things with flowers. Their attention to detail shows through in the beautiful bridal bouquets and event styling they have produced. So here I hand you over to Nicola, for a few words about Ruby and Joy,

‘rubyandjoy discover and display the most beautiful blooms, lush foliage, exotic berries and succulents to ensure a fresh and fragrant atmosphere at your personal or corporate event.

With fresh ideas and gorgeous blooms, rubyandjoy aim to capture a moment, believing that flowers have the power to add that essential element to any occasion.’

Flowers, Wedding Bouquets, Florist, Blooms, Event Stylists

and here is a little about Nicola herself:

1). What’s your favourite way to relax at the weekend?

Probably to sleep in! After many early mornings at the markets it’s always absolute heaven to lie in. But I also love weekend markets, catching up with friends and sometimes (if feeling really adventurous) bushwalking.

2). Favourite restaurant?

Ooh this is tricky. I have a few favourite cafes, but it’s more the people I catch up with at these places that make them favourites. Thyme Square in Hornsby does the best mashed potato (very important), and Kirribilli Woodfire Kitchen does the best takeaway pizzas. Ever.

3). What book are you reading at the moment?

Not reading anything at the moment unfortunately! I’ll need to plan a holiday so I can read to my hearts content!

4). What did you last go and see at the cinema?

The last movie I saw at the cinema was Inception which I though was both brilliant and mind numbingly confusing. But also watched Whip It on dvd on the weekend and loved it!

5). What is your favourite wedding story?

Oh my goodness, I have so many! I’m pretty easy though, any story of true love gets me.

Or follow us on our equally scrumptious blog called Lovely Pretty Cheery Things

Thanks Nicola, yes I LOVED Inception too ;)

Fab Finds #14: Tablescapes

Monday, September 6th, 2010

One of the many beautiful things about a wedding are the flowers. There are so many fantastic ways you can design the reception with flowers and here we have found a fab idea for you to oodle over! These images show beautiful suspended flowers which look simply stunning. Each clear vase holds one white ranunculus suspended in air by clear fishing lines.

We thought some of our classic wedding stationery would look great with this look, such as our classic monogram wedding invitations or bring in a bit of subtle colour with our delicate Lovebirds wedding invitations.
