Pre-designed, Custom Designed or DIY ~ which type?
There are a few things to consider when choosing your invitation type and what best suits you. These include your budget, timeline and you personal style. The main factor though, above all these, is what you desire and the others will follow suit!
So which is it? What does your heart say? That’s always the best way of coming to decisions on important matters such as wedding invitations. What type of person are you? Would you like the safety of picking your wedding invitation from a number of choices so that you’ll see exactly what it’s like before you buy it? Or would you prefer to employ your own stationery designer that will help you interpret and put your ideas and personality on to paper and consequently produce a one off design that is totally yours? Or are you excited about the prospect of getting stuck into the design yourself, by hand making your invitations, adding your own personal detail and delight?
Mmmm, it’s a tricky one isn’t it? So, I’ve decided to embellish each option further to help you make the all important decision that you’ll be happy with when you look back on your wedding day.
Pre-designed: This type of invitation requires you visiting a stationery shop, whether that is in person or online, where you can peruse the various designs on offer at your leisure. There is a vast array of invitations to choose from with varying styles, cardstocks used and pricing too. At mini Moko you can look through our invitation designs, as well as our online gallery showing photographs of the designs. You’ll also find inspiration boards in our gallery which are a great way to view our invitation designs within the context of matching inspiration for the day. You can also purchase stationery samples online (the cost of which will be deducted from any future stationery purchases) so that you get to see and feel the quality of the wedding stationery for yourself.
mini Moko’s pre-designed stationery can also be colour customised allowing you to choose from a range of over one hundred colours to personalise the design to match your wedding day colours, alter font types and at times, make small graphic changes to create the final invitation for you. I would advise that from a practical perspective, if you have a modest budget, a tight timeframe and need a helping hand with working out what your style is, then this option is great for you.
Custom Designed: Custom designed invitations are on the whole available through smaller or individual stationery designers as opposed to large retail businesses. These invites are designed and created just for you and are perfect if you have a strong sense of the look you’d like with a passion for something a little different and a few months (4-6 months) to spare prior to your wedding. They are created by a stationery designer just for you, based on your style, personality and preferences. The design process will evolve over a period of time so that they are tailored to the look and feel you are after ending with invitations that are unique to you.
mini Moko offers a custom design service for which further information can be found here.
Do-It-Yourself: DIY wedding invitations are exactly that – create your own design, buy your own materials, print and finally assemble your invitations. It is a lovely way to maximise your personal style into the design and undoubtedly many of your guests will be impressed with your hand made creations (well hopefully all going well!!!). However, please remember to be realistic about the artistic skill, time and not to mention effort that will be required on your behalf to produce these invitations. So if you are very artistic by nature and love crafting your evening away with plenty of time to spare, then this may well be the option for you.
Well hopefully now that I’ve given you some pointers on each of the various invitation type options, it will stand you in good stead for deciding which is the best invitation type for you – so good luck and enjoy!
