Save the Date Cards

Save the Date Cards are the perfect way to let your friends and family know of your future wedding in order for them to keep your special day free. A Save the Date Card contains the date and general location of the wedding so guests can make any necessary travel arrangements before the specific details are finalised. This will give your guests the extra time they may need to organise time off work, book flights and accommodation if needed.

They are an essential piece of stationery for many situations. For example, if you are planning a faraway destination wedding or if the wedding is set during the summer or near a holiday period. Flights and accommodation can quickly get booked up and it is thoughtful to give friends and family as much time as possible to plan for your wedding. It is also more likely that they will come too!

Save the Date Cards are generally sent out 4-6 months prior to your wedding date. However, if you are planning a destination wedding you should send them out at least 12 months in advance or possibly longer if your wedding date is planned for a busy day such as New Year’s Day. This gives your guests plenty of time to make all the necessary arrangements required to be a part of your wedding day. It also allows guests the opportunity to think about extending their stay if the location is a destination wedding. Giving you guests the option to combine your wedding and their annual holiday could make your wedding invitation a more viable option for many guests.

mini Moko produce a great range of Save the Date Cards for each of its pre-designed collections. This gives brides the opportunity to maintain a consistent design approach throughout their whole wedding from Save the Date Cards, Wedding Invitations through to Thank You Cards as a final memento of your day. For those who want something that little more individual, mini Moko also offer a custom design service as well as sample packs for you to view our products before purchasing.

As Save the Date Cards are a relatively new addition to wedding stationery. It is important that the wording is simple but clear so that they are not mistaken for an actual invitation. It is therefore advisable to include a phrase along the lines of, “Invitation to follow”. They aren’t meant to be formal but should clearly state your names, the wedding date, city or town and where the wedding will take place.

Ideally you would send a Save the Date Card to everybody that you will be inviting to your wedding, however this isn’t always affordable and therefore you should consider close family and friends as well as guests who will have travel and accommodation to consider.

Finally, don’t forget to order a few extra Save the Date Cards as you will undoubtedly add guests throughout the exciting planning process of your wedding day!
